Ankara Mayor Mansur Yavaş made significant statements during the 104th anniversary of the Sakarya Battle. He emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory for national identity.

Yavaş expressed that younger generations should visit historical sites to better understand the past. He stated, "If we do not keep this memory alive, they will start to question Turkish identity."

Yavaş also announced that they are conducting comprehensive work to preserve the routes of the national struggle through the Historical Cities Union. The aim is to document and promote the routes of the national struggle in cooperation with municipalities across Turkey.

"Reviving the war geography means not only remembering the past but also leaving a strong memory for the future," Yavaş stated, arguing that the weakening of social memory targets national values.
