Local Action Plans Against Climate Change Are Being Prepared

Climate change is increasingly felt in Turkey and around the world. Cities face many risks, from floods to heat waves.
It has become mandatory to prepare local climate action plans in 81 provinces. These plans will prioritize water efficiency.
Pilot provinces selected include Isparta, Antalya, Kastamonu, Ordu, Elazığ, and Kahramanmaraş. Special actions will be created to combat climate change in these provinces.
To determine future climate risks, climate projections for Turkey until 2100 are being created. This will show what types of risks each province may face.
According to the UN Population Fund, if no measures are taken, a young person born in 2001 is expected to face much more heat waves and drought than previous generations.
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz announced that extensive preparations regarding water are underway and a comprehensive policy set will be developed.
