There is a new agenda in the European Union: Gradual membership!

According to information from EU sources, different formulas are being evaluated to overcome Hungary's veto. Among these formulas, the proposal for new members to join without full voting and veto rights in the initial phase stands out.

This proposal is expected to be on the agenda of the EU summit on October 23. However, a groundbreaking decision is not anticipated at this stage.

Ukraine's EU membership process gained momentum after the war initiated by Russia on February 24, 2022. Ukraine applied for EU membership on February 28, 2022, and was granted candidate status on June 23, 2022.

However, the intergovernmental conference necessary to start membership negotiations has not yet convened. Hungary's veto is cited as the main reason for this delay.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban frequently expresses his opposition to Ukraine's EU membership. This situation is causing discussions within the EU.
