Drought Reveals Historical Remains in Meriç River

In Edirne, high temperatures have caused the water level in the Meriç River to drop, revealing historical remains.
According to the State Water Works, the flow rate of the Meriç River was measured at 37 cubic meters per second. The evaporation caused by high temperatures has led to a decrease in water levels.

As the water level in the Meriç River decreased, the remains of a wooden bridge that connected both banks centuries ago emerged. This situation has caused concern and surprise among citizens.
Altay Bayatlı from Trakya University stated that the wooden bridge was used in the 1830s. Due to drought and global warming, these remains can now be observed.

As part of drought management, water accumulated at the Meriç River Power Plant was released. This is an important step for ensuring healthy agricultural irrigation.

Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer stated that efforts are ongoing to combat drought. The aim is to get through this season without causing crop loss.
