Exciting Developments in Global Maritime Trade

As of 2024, the value of the global maritime trade fleet has reached 1.37 trillion dollars. This growth increases the share of maritime transport in world trade.
According to the report published by the Turkish Port Operators Association (TÜRKLİM), approximately 80% of world trade is conducted via sea routes. This highlights the importance of maritime transport once again.
Liberia, Panama, and the Marshall Islands stand out as the countries with the largest share in global maritime transport. These three countries accounted for 46.5% of global shipping capacity in 2023.
Among global container operators, MSC ranks first in terms of capacity and number of ships operated. This indicates the intensity of competition in maritime transport.
In 2024, the amount of cargo in maritime transport increased by 2.3% compared to 2023, reaching 12.63 billion tons. This increase reveals the growth potential of maritime trade.
The highest capacity increase in container transport is developing in parallel with changes in the structure of maritime trade. This situation leads to a decrease in bulk cargo transport as container usage in trade increases.
