Greece has detained an individual on suspicion of espionage for Russia. This incident marks a significant development in international relations.

The 59-year-old Georgian national was detained in a northeastern city of the country. The suspect confessed to taking photos of military materials and sending them via an encrypted application.

The suspect entered the courthouse with his face covered and refused to answer journalists' questions. Greek media reports suggest that he served in the Russian army and was allegedly tasked by Russia's military intelligence service GRU.

If convicted of espionage, he faces a prison sentence of 5 to 10 years. This situation is also linked to Greece's support for Ukraine.
