Recent Developments on Trade Deficit and Export Figures

Trade Minister Ömer Bolat announced the trade data. In April, the trade deficit was recorded at 12 billion 38 million dollars. This figure is an important indicator for Turkey's trade balance.
In April, our goods exports increased by 8.5% compared to the same month last year, reaching 20 billion 900 million dollars. This is the highest growth rate recorded in the last 9 months.
Bolat stated that the development of the Euro against the dollar positively impacted our exports by 440 million dollars. Our annualized exports reached the highest level in the Republic's history at 265 billion dollars.
Excluding energy products and non-monetary gold, our trade deficit was realized at 1 billion 336 million dollars in January. This situation is directly related to the increase in energy and gold imports.
While export records have been announced in 13 of the last 23 months, our exports continue to rise despite weak demand and increasing uncertainties. This is a promising development for the Turkish economy.
