IBB Fire Department Head Remzi Albayrak

A significant development has occurred in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB). Remzi Albayrak, the head of the IBB Fire Department, was detained as part of an operation targeting the BayrampaÅŸa Municipality.

On Saturday morning, police from the Istanbul Security Directorate's Financial Crimes Unit conducted an operation that resulted in the detention of Albayrak and three others. Among those detained were Bekir Önder from the CHP Bayrampaşa District Management, businessman İbrahim Amedi, and driver Hakan Köse.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that an investigation has been initiated against the detained individuals for charges of embezzlement, bribery, and corruption. Albayrak and the other suspects have been sent to court with a request for judicial control.

Albayrak was released under judicial control by the court, but a travel ban was imposed. These developments indicate the depth of the financial investigations within the IBB.

CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik found Albayrak's release encouraging and stated that municipal officials detained in similar investigations should also be tried without arrest.
