RTÜK Imposes Penalties on Media: 4 Channels and 2 Digital Platforms

The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has made significant decisions regarding broadcasting violations. In today's meeting, penalties were imposed on 4 television channels and 2 digital platforms.
In the program "4 Questions 4 Answers" aired on TELE1, Merdan Yanardağ's statements regarding July 15 were deemed divisive. Consequently, TELE1 received a 5-day broadcast suspension.
Similar violations were detected in programs aired on Halk TV. Statements made by Ali Mahir Başarır were considered an attack on personal rights, leading to penalties for both channels.
NR1 Türk channel also faced penalties for certain broadcasts deemed as secret commercial communications. Yıldız EN channel was penalized for exceeding the legal duration of tele-shopping broadcasts.
RTÜK also imposed penalties on digital platforms like Netflix and Spotify. The violent scenes in the film "Barda" on Netflix were found to violate societal values.
In conclusion, RTÜK's oversight may contribute to strengthening ethical and responsible understanding in media. Media outlets are expected to adhere to broadcasting principles and consider societal sensitivities.
