Drought Threat: Eber Lake and Flamingos

Drought is threatening Eber Lake!
Eber Lake, located between Çay, Bolvadin, and Sultandağı districts, has shrunk from 125 square kilometers to just 12 square kilometers due to drought. Its depth has decreased from 21 meters to just 50 centimeters.

Due to drought, 330 plant species, especially 56 endemic species, are at risk of extinction. Species like the Anatolian water frog and the spotted turtle are also affected by this situation.

The lake's surface area has decreased by about 90%, and boats along the shore have run aground. This situation is severely impacting the local ecosystem.
Flamingos will have to migrate due to the decreasing water levels. The flocks of flamingos that arrive in spring will migrate from the lake in autumn due to the dropping water levels.
