Retirement Salary and the Necessity of Side Jobs

Retirement salaries are becoming insufficient for millions in Turkey.
Today, many workers are forced to take on side jobs to make ends meet. CHP Istanbul Deputy Gamze Akkuş İlgezdi points out that Turkey has the longest working hours in Europe. 65% of workers cannot survive without side jobs. This situation severely affects the living standards of workers.
England abandoned such working conditions back in 1802. However, Turkey is still governed by this outdated labor regime. Most workers cannot cover their rent, bills, and children's expenses with a single salary, leading to the necessity of side jobs.
The average weekly working hours per worker in Turkey is recorded as 44.6 hours. However, the reality is much higher, with many workers forced to work 50-60 hours a week.
This situation shows that workers in Turkey can only survive by working extra hours, not just by working overtime. The necessity of side jobs diminishes the quality of life for workers and complicates the achievement of social justice.
