The university diploma of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoğlu has been revoked!

Istanbul University announced the revocation of Imamoğlu's diploma. This decision was announced following a management board meeting on March 18, 2025. The reasons for the revocation include not meeting the requirements for horizontal transfer and deficiencies in some documents.

Imamoğlu describes this situation as unlawful and states that he will appeal the decision in court. He also expressed that this decision is a severe blow to democracy.

Following the decision, reactions came from the CHP and other political parties. Imamoğlu's lawyer argued that the decision is against the law.

Imamoğlu was planning to be the CHP candidate in the upcoming primary elections on March 23. However, the revocation of his diploma may affect this process.
