Water Crisis Deepens: What Should the EU and UN Do?

The water crisis is increasingly deepening worldwide. What role should the European Union and the United Nations play in solving this issue?
According to the World Meteorological Organization's report, the water cycle is becoming increasingly unstable. Severe droughts and destructive floods are increasing pressure on water resources. Energy consumption in the water sector is expected to double by 2040.
This situation means that millions more will join the 3.6 billion people who already lack access to sufficient water. If these inefficiencies are not addressed, GDP in high-income countries could decrease by 8%, while in low-income countries it could drop by 10-15%.
The water consumption of data centers has also reached significant levels. It is estimated that the annual water consumption of data centers, currently around 560 billion liters, could double to 1200 billion liters by 2030.
Experts emphasize that governments need to set water efficiency targets and invest in smart measurement systems. Solving the water crisis requires not only technology but also the development of policies.
