The Marine Park Crisis Between Greece and Turkey

Greece has declared two marine parks in the Aegean and Ionian Seas. This situation has led to a new crisis between Turkey and Greece.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that these parks would be the most protected marine areas in the Mediterranean. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted strongly to this situation.

Marine parks are established to protect marine life. However, Turkey argues that these parks are unilaterally declared and violate international law.

Turkey may declare its own marine parks in response to Greece's actions. This could further escalate tensions between the two countries.
International maritime law encourages cooperation among coastal states. Turkey has stated that it is always ready for cooperation with Greece.
