Climate Change is Driving Up Global Food Prices

Climate change is affecting food prices worldwide. Recent research shows that extreme weather events are driving up food costs.
Since 2022, cocoa prices have increased by 280% due to heat waves in Ghana and Ivory Coast. Additionally, droughts in Brazil have also raised coffee prices.
The lead author of the study, Maximillian Kotz, stated, "People are feeling the direct effects. The rise in food prices is becoming a significant issue for low-income families."
The increase in food prices is becoming a central issue in elections across many countries. For instance, market prices were among the most debated topics in the US and Britain.
