The European Union is preparing to vote on the 18th sanction package against Russia. These sanctions will target Russia's energy and banking sectors.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that they want to increase pressure on Russia due to its ongoing attacks on Ukraine. The sanctions will deeply affect the Russian economy.

The new sanction package includes bans related to the Nord Stream pipelines in the energy sector. Additionally, there is a proposal to lower the oil price ceiling from 60 dollars to 45 dollars.

Kaja Kallas emphasized that the sanctions aim to support Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia. The sanctions are effective and weaken Russia's ability to continue the war.
