The US has made it mandatory for visa applicants to keep their social media accounts public. This decision was made for national security reasons.

The US Embassy in Ankara stated that having public social media accounts is necessary for applicants to prove their identity and eligibility.

This new regulation will apply to F, M, and J type visas, affecting students and participants in exchange programs.

The Department of State emphasized that obtaining a US visa is not a right but a privilege, hence applicants must keep their social media accounts open.

It was noted that social media accounts will be scrutinized during visa applications, and applicants' backgrounds will also be considered.
