Energy and Mining Regulations Discussed in the Turkish Parliament

Important regulations regarding energy and mining are being discussed in the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
Mustafa Varank, the Chairman of the Commission on Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Information and Technology, answered questions from deputies. Varank stated that the acceleration of renewable energy investments is necessary.
Varank expressed that the long approval processes for energy investments negatively affect investors. Therefore, it is crucial to expedite these regulations.
He mentioned criticisms regarding the acceleration of environmental impact assessments, clarifying that only the process of obtaining opinions from relevant institutions will be expedited.
Varank also addressed the discussions about the relocation of olive trees, emphasizing the importance of considering the opinions of agricultural engineers.
Opposition parties argued that the regulations would harm the environment and that the consent of the public was not obtained. Tensions arose in the Turkish Parliament following these debates.
