Tsunami risk map of Istanbul.

A tsunami risk map has been established for Istanbul and the Marmara coast. This map, developed by Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, aims to predict potential flooding following an earthquake.

Dr. Ceyhun Özçelik emphasized the importance of this map in determining the effects of possible tsunami waves in the Marmara region. The prepared risk zones cover areas that could be affected by sea floods of 5, 10, and 20 meters.

The effects of tsunamis will be more pronounced in low-lying coastal areas. Therefore, it is crucial for citizens to be aware of this and take necessary precautions.

Additionally, the recent 6.2 magnitude earthquake in the Marmara Sea has raised concerns about tsunami risks. Experts emphasize the need for quick action in such situations.

These maps will serve as a guide for individuals to take their own precautions. Therefore, it is critical to take pre-disaster measures and to make post-disaster intervention planning effective.
