Greece Officially Recognizes Alevi-Bektashi Community!

Greece has officially recognized the Alevi-Bektashi community in Western Thrace! This significant development allows them to manage their properties and establish associations.
According to the law passed in the Greek parliament, approximately 3,500 Alevi-Bektashi individuals will be able to conduct marriage and funeral ceremonies. They will also have a say in their children's education.
With this new regulation, the places of worship for Alevi individuals have also been recognized. Greek newspapers have described Alevi people as 'the most progressive Muslims'. This situation will allow for a broader acceptance of Alevi and Bektashi beliefs.
In Turkey, however, cemevis are still not recognized as places of worship. Nevertheless, according to the regulation passed in 2022, the state covers the electricity and water bills for cemevis.
