Amazon Rainforests Drying Up! Climate Change Threat

Amazon rainforests, known as the lungs of the world, are in danger!

Scientists warn that the Amazon is at risk of turning into a dry savanna. This situation is triggered by a combination of climate change and deforestation.

The World Resources Institute estimates that in 2024, 28 thousand square meters of forest were lost in the Brazilian Amazon. These losses could have significant impacts on the ecosystem.

The Amazon covers an area of 6 million square meters, making it the largest tropical rainforest in the world, housing 10% of the world's plant and animal species.

According to the World Wildlife Fund, the Amazon contains between 99 billion and 154 billion tons of carbon, playing a crucial role in regulating global water and carbon cycles.

Andrew Friend from Cambridge University questions the inevitability of these changes and what level of climate change and deforestation will trigger this transformation.
