Trump and Meloni Meeting: Trade Agreement with the EU on the Horizon

During a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, US President Donald Trump confirmed that a trade agreement with the European Union would be made. This meeting is notable for Trump's softer tone towards the EU following his recent criticisms.
Trump stated, "There will be a trade agreement, this is a hundred percent. They really want it. We will make a deal. I believe it will be a fair agreement." Meloni added, "I believe we can make a deal. That’s why I am here."

Meloni, as one of the leaders who has established a strong bond with Trump, came to Washington on behalf of the European Union. The purpose of her visit was to prevent the increase of tariffs on the EU.
Trump referred to Meloni as "one of the real leaders. A great talent." However, he refused to engage with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The US warned that if no agreement is reached, it could increase certain tariffs within three months. Meloni’s direct talks with Trump provided a significant advantage for EU negotiators.
Meloni announced that they would purchase more liquefied natural gas from the US and that Italian companies would invest up to 10 billion euros in the US. She also stated that Italy would increase its defense spending to 2% of GDP, in line with NATO goals.
