Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has been arrested on espionage charges. This development has created a significant stir in Turkey's political landscape.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated an espionage investigation against İmamoğlu and TELE 1 General Manager Merdan Yanardağ. İmamoğlu has been detained since March 23 due to investigations focused on İBB.

The prosecutor's office has also launched an investigation against İmamoğlu's campaign director, Necati Özkan, for espionage. Allegations suggest that İmamoğlu's main goal was to raise funds for his presidential candidacy.

After his arrest, İmamoğlu described the situation as a conspiracy, claiming that an attempt was being made to undermine the will of the people.
