Climate Financing Needs Exceed 310 Billion Dollars Annually

Financing needed for climate change.

Climate change poses a serious threat worldwide. According to a report by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the annual financing needs for climate adaptation exceed 310 billion dollars.

The financing gap for developing countries to adapt to climate change threatens lives and economies. In 2023, international public financing for these countries was only 26 billion dollars.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized that "Adaptation is not a cost, but a lifeline," urging for urgent measures to ensure climate justice and a safer world.

As the effects of climate change increase, efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are slowing down. Therefore, there is a need for mobilization of public and private resources to increase adaptation financing.

Andersen stated, "If we do not make adaptation investments now, we will face increasing costs every year," highlighting the need for urgent action.
