Climate change and water scarcity are significant threats to Turkey's future. Experts warn that in the coming years, water resources will decrease, and Turkey will join the ranks of countries facing water scarcity.

Prof. Dr. Celalettin Şimşek emphasized that 186 out of 240 lakes in Turkey have dried up and that water resources are under pressure. A temperature increase of 2-4 degrees is expected by 2040.

Experts highlight the importance of using grey water in agriculture to combat drought. In Izmir, 400-450 million cubic meters of wastewater is discharged into the sea each year.

Prof. Dr. Şimşek advocates for the establishment of a Ministry of Water Security, emphasizing that water management should be centralized and legal measures should be taken to ensure efficient use of water resources.

Turkey's water balance has deteriorated. The per capita annual water amount was 1652 cubic meters in 2000, but today it has decreased to 1308 cubic meters. This amount is expected to decrease further in the coming years.

Climate change is no longer a prediction but a reality. Urgent measures must be taken to protect Turkey's water resources.
