The Turkish Grand National Assembly has extended the mandate for Turkish troops in Syria and Iraq for 3 years. This decision is seen as a critical step for Turkey's security.

In the mandate sent by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, it was emphasized that the threat of terrorism continues in Turkey's southern borders. In this context, it was stated that necessary measures must be taken to protect national security.

The mandate was approved in the Grand National Assembly and will be effective from October 30, 2025. During this period, the Turkish Armed Forces will be able to conduct cross-border operations if necessary.

The CHP voted 'no' for the Iraq and Syria mandate while voting 'yes' for the Lebanon mandate. This situation has led to political debates.
