The European Parliament has highlighted the issues faced by Turkish citizens in visa applications. The report addresses the difficulties in Schengen visa applications from Turkey.

In 2023, 1,055,000 Schengen visa applications were made from Turkey, with 867,000 approved. However, the rejection rate was recorded at 16.1%. This situation highlights the challenges faced by Turkish citizens in entering Europe.

European Parliament Turkey Rapporteur Nacho Sanchez Amor noted that there is political will to facilitate visa access. However, calls were made to eliminate remaining technical and administrative barriers on both sides.

EU officials stated that the number of Turkish citizens applying for asylum after entering Europe with a visa has increased. This further emphasizes the need to resolve visa issues.

Turkey still has six criteria to meet in order to obtain visa exemption. These criteria include reforms in the anti-terror law and cooperation agreements with Europol.
