Turkish Tourists Flooding to Greece Amid Staffing Crisis

Greece is preparing to welcome a record number of Turkish tourists this summer. However, a serious staffing crisis is affecting the sector.
It is estimated that there is a labor shortage of about 80,000 people in the tourism and service sectors across the country. Finding workers to fill basic positions in hotels and restaurants is becoming increasingly difficult.
Dimitris Stathokostopulos notes that young people no longer want to work weekends and prefer stable office jobs. This trend is also evident in popular tourist islands.
The Greek government is taking steps to legalize the status of undocumented migrants and establish labor transfer agreements. This could help fill the skilled labor gap in the sector.
Sofia Kouvelaki emphasizes that Greece will need about 750,000 workers by 2050 and argues that it would be wise to utilize this workforce rather than sending refugees back.
