AKP's Reflections on the KKTC Election Results

On October 19, 2025, the presidential elections in the KKTC resulted in the victory of Tufan Erhürman, the leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), who received 62.76% of the votes.
The election results led to evaluations within the AKP regarding "uncontrollable areas." The current president, Ersin Tatar, supported by the AKP, lost with 35.81% of the votes.
Some sources within the AKP indicate that these results show the need for Ankara to redefine its Cyprus policy. It is suggested that voters reacted against Turkey's intervention.
Tufan Erhürman emphasized that he will maintain close consultations with Turkey following his victory. This carries an important message for the future of relations between Turkey and the KKTC.
Devlet Bahçeli's reaction to the election results was also noteworthy. Bahçeli stated that the KKTC should decide to join Turkey.
