Climate Change and Global Warming: Record Heat Expected This Summer

Climate change is causing record temperatures in Turkey during the summer months. Experts predict that this summer will be extremely hot.
According to Prof. Dr. Şermin Tağıl from Izmir Bakırçay University, Turkey is facing a serious risk of temperature increase and drought this summer. The summer of 2025 is expected to be one of the hottest and driest periods in recent years.
According to the General Directorate of Meteorology, the average temperature in January 2025 rose to 5.5 degrees, compared to 2.9 degrees between 1991-2020. This is recorded as the third hottest January in the last 55 years.
Drought conditions are expected to worsen across the country, including the Black Sea region. Experts indicate that sea surface temperatures will rise by 1.5 to 1.8 degrees compared to last year.

Climate forecasting models predict that temperatures will continue to rise during the summer months. This situation could have significant impacts on agriculture, water resources, and daily life.
Prof. Dr. Tağıl emphasized the importance of establishing systems to ensure access to clean water and the widespread adoption of technologies that increase water efficiency in agriculture.
