Piri Reis Sets Sail in the Aegean, Greece Responds

The Piri Reis research vessel departed from Izmir port and set sail in the Aegean Sea. This situation has raised concerns in Greece.
Athens has closely monitored the Piri Reis as it conducts research off the coast of Bozcaada. According to the new Navtex notification, the vessel will conduct research from October 4 to 14.
Greece claims that the area where Piri Reis will conduct research is in international waters west of Chios and Lesvos. Therefore, Athens issued a counter Navtex to remind who holds authority in the disputed area.
The Greek military has begun military exercises in the area where Piri Reis is expected to operate. Over 60 fighter jets and the entire Greek navy participated in these drills.
The Greek media interpreted these exercises as a message to Turkey. Piri Reis has not yet started its research, but Greece views this situation as "Turkey's hesitation."
