Syria's People's Assembly Elections: The First Step of a New Era

Syria held its first People's Assembly elections after the revolution. These elections are of great importance for the future of the country.
In the elections, approximately 6,000 committee members voted. However, these elections are considered far from meeting democratic standards.
Transition President Ahmed Shara stated that the elections should be seen as a historic development. These elections are viewed as an important step for the reconstruction of Syria.
Following the elections, the establishment of the new People's Assembly is expected. The main task of this assembly will be to prepare the new constitution.
Turkey is pleased with the occurrence of these elections in Syria. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan expressed that this step will contribute to the establishment of a new life in Syria.
