Recent days have seen union pressures and dismissals in AKP corridors. Allegations have emerged that Sanliurfa Akçakale Mayor Abdülhakim Ayhan is forcing workers to change unions.

Worker representative Ahmet Taştan stated that he was dismissed for not resigning from the union, saying, "They have established a banana republic here." Workers held a strike in response to these pressures.
