In Çanakkale, the cost of the Atikhisar Dam, built 50 years ago, is being demanded by the State Water Affairs. This situation has drawn the reaction of CHP Mayor Muharrem Erkek.

The State Water Affairs is asking for the cost of the dam, which was commissioned in 1975, from the 10th CHP mayor, Muharrem Erkek, in 2025. This is seen as a political revenge.

CHP Mersin MP Gülcan Kış describes this situation as politicizing the people's water. She claims that the aim is to make the municipalities unworkable.

The dam is also facing a mining threat, as Koza Altın AŞ wants to operate a gold mine in its protection area. Environmentalists are strongly opposed to this.

Mayor Erkek states that the demand from the State Water Affairs has no legal basis and that it is a form of political pressure. He emphasizes that profit has infiltrated even water.
