Hurricane and Storm Disaster: Effects on Agriculture

Hurricane and storm disasters are deeply affecting the agricultural sector. Especially in Siirt, pistachio trees are suffering from extreme heat.
Şuayip Aslan, the President of the Siirt Pistachio Producers Union, announced that significant losses in pistachio yield are expected this year. He warned that approximately 1 million pistachio trees are at risk of drying out.

Due to drought, losses are more pronounced in areas with limited irrigation. While the loss rate in irrigated orchards is around 1-2%, it reaches 80% in non-irrigated areas.
Fires also threaten agricultural products. A fire started by an elderly citizen to brew tea spread to pistachio trees, causing significant damage. Such incidents increase losses in agriculture.

Similar losses are being experienced in hazelnut production. In Giresun, it has been reported that the hazelnut yield has decreased by 15-20% due to snow and cold weather.
Farmers are advised to take out insurance against the damages they face. Such measures can reduce losses in the event of disasters.
