15 Percent Increase in Ship Passage Fees Announced!

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced a 15 percent increase in ship passage fees. This increase will be effective from July 1, 2025.
Minister Uraloğlu stated that the value of the Gold Franc, which remained fixed for 39 years before 2022, has been regularly increased each year. With this year's increase, the passage fee will rise 7.2 times compared to before 2022.
Uraloğlu emphasized that this increase will contribute to the development of necessary infrastructure to enhance maritime safety in the Turkish Straits. In 2024, there were 51,058 ship passages through the Istanbul and Canakkale Straits, generating a total of 227.4 million dollars.
The Minister stated that these fees are critical for ensuring maritime safety and environmental security. The Turkish Straits are known as one of the most dangerous waterways in the world.
Finally, Uraloğlu reiterated the commitment to protect the country's rights and interests. This increase is considered a significant development in the maritime sector.
