Pension salaries continue to fall below the poverty line. The hunger and poverty thresholds in Turkey are rising rapidly.

According to the April 2025 data from the United Public Workers Confederation, the hunger threshold for a four-person family is 26,178 lira, while the poverty line is set at 79,413 lira. These figures illustrate the increasing difficulties faced by retirees and minimum wage earners.

The minimum wage for 2025 is set at 22,104 lira, which is 4,074 lira below the hunger threshold. The lowest pension of 14,469 lira can only cover 16 days of food needs.

Food expenses are also rising rapidly. Monthly expenses for meat, fish, and eggs are 7,920 lira, for dairy products are 5,297 lira, and for fruits and vegetables are 6,244 lira.

The number of individuals living below the poverty line is increasing every day. The economic crisis threatens the living standards of low-income citizens.
