In Greece, the Turkish minority is demanding the protection of their right to education in their mother tongue. Çiğdem Asafoğlu, the leader of the Friendship Equality Peace Party, raised concerns about discrimination in education.

The Greek state is violating the right to education by closing Turkish minority schools in Western Thrace. This year, many schools were closed, reducing the number from 210 to 83.

Asafoğlu stated that the Greek state interprets the Lausanne Treaty according to its own interests and is depriving the Turkish minority of its rights.

There are difficulties in reaching schools that have been closed, and the Greek state is providing various incentives to direct Turkish children to its own schools.

The issues of the Turkish minority in Western Thrace will continue to be raised in the European Parliament. The struggle for education rights continues.
