Fires Controlled Around the Aegean Sea

Forest fires around Athens, Greece, have been brought under control. However, the risk of fire continues due to hot weather and winds.
The fires started in the Palaia Fokaia and Thymari regions east of Athens. Five villages were evacuated due to the fires. Authorities stated that while the fires are under control, the risk remains.

The Greek Fire Service deployed over 100 personnel and various vehicles to combat the fires. The fires caused damage to olive groves and homes.

The fires on Chios Island also affected a large area, burning over 4,000 hectares. Temperatures are expected to exceed 40 degrees in the coming days.
