The use of the TRNC definition in Greece has created significant discomfort in the opposition.

The Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) demanded the resignation of Energy Deputy Minister Nikos Çafos. Çafos had used the term "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)" in a post from 2020. SYRIZA's spokesperson, Yorgos Karameros, insisted that Çafos should resign without an apology.

Çafos stated on his social media account that the opposition is attacking him. He acknowledged his mistake in the 2020 post and mentioned that he deleted it.
