AKP Deputy Halts Urban Transformation in Earthquake City

The AKP deputy has halted urban transformation projects in Elazig. This situation endangers public safety.
The Elazig Municipality's budget for 2026 allocated only 250 million TL for urban transformation, which has drawn significant public backlash. MHP council member Behçet Susmaz emphasized that this budget is insufficient.
Susmaz stated, "With 250 million TL, urban transformation is not possible. This budget indicates that no transformation will occur this year."
He also pointed out the contradiction between the municipality's promises regarding urban transformation projects and the allocated budget, implying that this misleads the public.
Legal issues in financing urban transformation were also raised. The municipality's practice of only collecting contributions from construction permit holders creates inequality.
Lastly, the appointment of Alaattin Meydanoğlu, a representative of the Ensar Foundation, as the Director of Disaster Affairs sparked public debate.
