Discussions on retirement salaries in the TBMM.

Recent developments regarding retirement salaries have become a hot topic in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Elif Esen, a member of the New Path Group, stated that retirement salaries should be 35,000 lira. This demand was met with laughter from AKP members.

With the recent raises, civil servant retirees received a 15.57% increase, while workers and Bağ-Kur retirees received a 16.67% increase. However, many retirees received no increase due to their base salaries, forcing the lowest pension to be raised from 14,469 lira to 16,880 lira with Treasury support.

Elif Esen pointed out that in 2001, the lowest retirement salary was about 1.5 times the minimum wage, but today it is only about half of it. This situation severely affects the living standards of retirees.

Discussions held in the TBMM regarding retirement salaries.

Mahmut Arıkan, the leader of the Saadet Party, emphasized that if retirement salaries are not increased, retirees will find themselves in a difficult situation. He highlighted that it is impossible to live on a salary of 16,000 TL in a country where the poverty line is 26,000 TL.

Retired MPs currently receive a salary of 123,759 lira. This situation highlights the gap between the living standards of retirees and the salaries of MPs.

This week, the TBMM will discuss increases in holiday bonuses for retirees and other regulations. These regulations aim to improve the living standards of retirees.
