Drought and Erosion: Sinkholes Emerge in Aksaray

Drought and erosion are causing serious problems in various regions of Turkey. Sinkholes have started to form in Aksaray.
Following the Konya Plain, sinkholes have begun to appear in the Aksaray basin. Geology Engineer Nurcan Özdemir emphasized that groundwater is not unlimited.

The sinkhole in Sultanhanı district has a diameter of 5 meters and a depth of 15 meters. This situation is attributed to the uncontrolled extraction of water.
Özdemir stated that groundwater is only replenished by rain and snow, and these resources are limited. Therefore, agricultural practices in the region need urgent review.

This region, located in the salt lake basin, is under serious threat due to excessive water consumption. It is stated that a transition to dry farming must be achieved urgently.
