The Rich Are Responsible for Global Warming!

It turns out that the rich are the biggest contributors to global warming!
A new study by ETH Zurich reveals that the wealthiest 10% of the world's population is responsible for about two-thirds of global warming since 1990. This highlights how the climate crisis is shaped by the wealthy.
Lead author Sarah Schöngart stated, "The ecological footprints of the richest individuals are many times larger than those of low and middle-income individuals," emphasizing how this situation exacerbates climate impacts.
The wealthiest 10% in China and the USA account for nearly half of global carbon pollution. This shows that climate policies must consider the responsibilities of the wealthiest individuals to be effective.
The research team emphasizes that policies combating inequality will play a key role in achieving climate goals. In this context, progressive taxation based on wealth levels could be a fairer method compared to widespread CO₂ taxes.
