In the February 28 case, 13 defendants received 18-year prison sentences. This decision was made following the Supreme Court's reversal. Among the defendants are retired generals and former heads of YÖK.

The Supreme Court upheld the life sentences given to 16 defendants. However, 13 defendants were sentenced to 18 years in prison for 'aiding a coup attempt'. This situation once again highlights the contentious nature of political trials in Turkey.

The defendants claimed that the allegations were baseless and that there was no concrete evidence in the case. Retired Admiral Altaç Atılan summarized the situation by saying, 'Perhaps our only crime was being soldiers.'

The lawyers of the defendants stated that their clients were elderly and ill, requesting an end to the 13-year-long trial. However, the court ruled for the sentencing of the 13 defendants.

This case holds significant importance in Turkey's political history. The February 28 process was a time of intense military intervention and political pressure. Today, the outcomes of this case are still being debated.
