Germany's Shelter Plans: Europe Prepares for War

Germany is implementing shelter plans against potential attacks from Russia, aiming to create space for 1 million people.
Ralph Tiesler, head of the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance, stated that Europe's largest economy must prepare for the reality of conflict. He emphasized that Germany is currently not adequately prepared.
Tiesler called for the conversion of tunnels, metro stations, and basements of public buildings into shelters. Many existing shelters are not operational and require renovation.
It is noted that the shelters in Germany can only accommodate 480,000 people. In contrast, Finland has 50,000 protective rooms that can serve 4.8 million people.
Tiesler also mentioned the need for improved information systems to guide the public on where to take shelter. He stressed that warning systems must be modernized.
