A water crisis is escalating in Greece! A state of emergency has been declared.

According to Greek State Television ERT, the Secretary of Civil Protection has declared a state of emergency for the settlements of Serres, Lefkonas, and Kristos. This decision aims to facilitate the fight against the uranium problem found in drinking water.

The state of emergency, requested by Serres Mayor Varvara Bitlianga, will last until June 26. This decision will provide access to financial tools that can be used in emergencies for relevant municipalities and institutions.

Last week, inspections revealed dangerous levels of uranium in drinking water, leading to a ban on the use of water for drinking and cooking in five settlements.

This state of emergency decision is aimed at supporting citizens and accelerating the resolution process of the issue. The situation in Greece poses a threat to the safety of water resources in the region.
