Spain has initiated an important discussion regarding Israel's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The Spanish state television RTVE sent a letter to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), stating that Israel's participation should be discussed. RTVE President Jose Pablo Lopez expressed concerns raised by the public regarding the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Lopez emphasized that EBU should create a discussion platform among member broadcasters on this issue. The official statement from RTVE highlighted the appropriateness of accepting this discussion.

This year's Eurovision Song Contest is planned to take place in Basel, Switzerland, on May 7, 9, and 11. Spain's decision raises questions about how it will affect the spirit of the competition.
