Greece's 25 Billion Euro Defense Plan and Its Implications

Greece has announced a defense plan worth 25 billion euros. This plan emphasizes the importance of the country's defense investments.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated in parliament that these investments are critical for sovereignty. Greece is preparing to invest this amount, which is nearly double its annual reserves, into its military.
Mitsotakis emphasized that a significant part of this transformation is investing in domestic value-added. He also highlighted the importance of the European Union providing financial flexibility for defense investments.
According to the Bank of Greece's data, the country's gold reserves amount to 15 billion 705 million euros. However, this figure may not be sufficient to meet military objectives.
Mitsotakis noted that salaries for military personnel have been increased and emphasized the continuity of support for security forces. He stated that the government's financial and defense policies are conducted with long-term balance in mind.
