Municipal council meeting in Gaziantep.

In Gaziantep's Şehitkamil district, the transition of CHP Mayor Umut Yılmaz to AKP has sparked a significant political crisis. The budget discussions for 2026, scheduled for today, could not be held due to insufficient attendance.

The absence of AKP members from the meeting has been interpreted as a protest in political circles. CHP Council Member Ersin Atar linked this situation to the controversial appointments made by the mayor, stating, "He said he would show how to provide services after joining AKP, but now he can't even gather the council."

This crisis is seen as a sign of a deepening political conflict, not just a matter of attendance. Atar also mentioned a struggle for the vice presidency among AKP council members.

Umut Yılmaz has become unable to even gather the council after joining AKP. This situation indicates that while the people of Şehitkamil expect services, they are unable to receive them due to political disputes.
